Everything about Nirdhar Pratishthan
Ni·r·dha·r in Marathi means a resolution or determination, Prathistan means an organization.
The thought of starting Nirdhar Prathistan, a permanent residential home for ICPs, was conceived by the late Mr. Shreepad Shinde who started collaborating with like minded parents and formed the trust in 1990. Subsequently the trust acquired land at Tokre village, which is about 9 Kms from Virar Railway Station (suburb of Mumbai). The residence for ICPs started functioning from 11th December 1994. Amol Suresh Naik was the first resident who is the son of Mr. Suresh Naik, Ex. executive trustee of Nirdhar.
Nirdhar Pratishthans's objectives are as follow:
Provide opportunities to ICPs to develop their potentials and enjoy independent assisted living.
Provide homelike warm care, a home away from home. Ensure a dignified, happy and comfortable life to ICPs.
Provide support, information and assistance to parents of intellectually challenged persons.
Knowing people with intellectual disability closely and sensitively is a deeply humanizing experience.
They make us realize that there are diverse ways of being in this world. Their capacity for love and happiness touches us deeply. They teach us unconditional love, living in the present, faith & innocence, and freedom from egoism. If we can imbibe these qualities in us .... life would be truly beautiful.
Nirdhar Pratishtan is managed by trustees and professionals. Most of them are also parents / guardians of ICPs with hands on experience in training / care of ICPs and capacity building of institutions. Above all, we have strong will and determination for the welfare of ICPs.
We embrace an open policy of admission for ICPs.
